When it comes to the ultimate easygoing, elevated bedding, you’ll want to reach for the best linen sheets. This fabric is an old faithful with great range, seen everywhere from Scandi-style beach houses to cozy, colorful city apartments, owing to their breathability and relaxed look. And while you may think linen is just for summer and waterfront locales—yes, the moisture-wicking fabric works beautifully for body temperature regulation—the light, long-lasting material has become increasingly popular year-round for sheets, duvets, and shams for any style or space

As luxury linen has moved into the mainstream to become one of the softest bedding options, a major bonus is that a far more appealing range of price points and color options are now dominating the market. High-quality linen bedding can easily refine the look of your bedroom, and, as of late, we’re seeing it offered in on-trend color palettes (see Quince’s espresso brown set) and patterns, like cottagecore-inspired gingham from Piglet in Bed. If you’re more inclined to choose a solid color, you can venture away from a plain white sheet set with soothing muted tones or vibrant colors.

From the shockingly well-priced all the way to high-end heirloom-worthy selections (including stonewashed linen sheets) there’s something for every budget—so you won’t have to look too hard for eco-friendly, organic options when you’re shopping for your next set of sheets. Another plus? These sheets get softer from the first wash on (yes, it’s really true). As dedicated editors who put on Sleep Week annually, we’ve rounded up several AD-approved sheets that are guaranteed to help you snooze in style. Ahead, browse the best linen sheets that deliver a lived-in luxury look.

Note: Prices reflect queen-size linen sheet sets unless otherwise noted.

Brooklinen Washed Linen Core Sheet Set

New and improved, softer linen sheets, Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, natural texture

Doesn’t come in twin or twin XL sizes, more expensive than previous iteration

  • Material: 100% certified European flax
  • Available sizes: Full, queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Machine wash cold with like colors. Tumble dry low, remove promptly. Non-chlorine bleach only. Warm iron if needed.
  • Available colors: Eight solid colors, eight printed colors
  • What’s included: One flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases

Brooklinen’s signature linen formula got a revamp this year, and we can confirm it’s up to par. Our staffers have had the beloved bedding start-up’s original linen sheets for years, with contributor Madeleine Luckel describing them as “versatile and temperature regulating” and breezy enough to make her feel like she was living on a Greek island. While they were never a rough linen set, the new and improved washed European linen set is made to feel even softer than before, and contributor Yelena Moroz Alpert can confirm. “It’s linen, so there is natural texture because of slubs (teeny bumps) in the weave, but I think this adds to the softness,” she notes. “Think of your favorite linen shirt, but in the form of a sheet.”

Alpert says that the bedding has a nice drape to it and a smooth feel. Other perks are that it is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified—meaning it’s clear of harmful chemicals—and still quite breathable. “I didn’t find it too stuffy, and even my husband, who is a hot sleeper, didn’t complain about it,” she adds. These are a bit pricier—about $50 more than the original set—but for the upgraded quality, we think it’s worth it.

The Affordable Set

  • Available sizes: Twin, full, queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Cold wash on the gentle or delicate with like colors. Line dry, or tumble dry low and remove promptly

Available in a whopping 35 neutral and vibrant shades and prints (including gingham and stripes), Quince’s garment-washed, midweight, 100% European flax sheets are available in options for nearly any bedroom design. They are also one of the more affordable options on our list at $170 for a queen-size set (and who doesn’t sleep better knowing they got a great deal?). Several of our editors have this sheet set, including senior commerce editor Nashia Baker. “While my bedroom style can vary, I’ve been inspired by a Mediterranean-meets-minimalist aesthetic these days—which is exactly why Quince’s linen bedding has been a mainstay on my mattress,” she says. “I love its airy nature along with the gorgeous Bordeaux color on my bed that complements the rest of my decor.”

Best Set for Maximalists

Bed Threads 100% Flax Linen Sheet Set

Ideal for a bold bedroom design, ideal for hot sleepers, fibers withstand countless washes

The only patterns available are stripes

  • Material: 100% French flax linen
  • Available sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, Queen Special, King, California King
  • Washing instructions: Wash cold, gentle cycle using liquid detergent only. Limit tumble-drying to low settings
  • Available colors: 21 colors
  • What’s included: Two pillowcases, one flat sheet, and one fitted sheet

With nearly every eccentric color under the sun, these French flax linen sheets from Bed Threads are a great fit for a maximalist bedroom. According to senior digital design editor Zoë Sessums, these sheets are just as high-quality as they are vibrant to accent your space. “A friend of mine has a range of sunset hues on his bed and frankly, I’m jealous (though it’s hard to go wrong with white linen sheets),” she says. “I found these to be sturdy, beautiful, and perfect for temperature control.”

The Elegant Set

  • Bed made with pink sheets.

Buffy Belgian Linen Sheet Set

Nice drape, vibrant colorways, the hues pair well with gingham for a cottagecore bedscape

Not as ideal for hot sleepers

  • Material: 100% flax
  • Available sizes: Full, queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Machine wash cold. Line or tumble dry low.
  • Available colors: 14 colors
  • What’s included: Two pillowcases, one top sheet, and one fitted sheet

“Call me a romantic, but I keep thinking that this is something Jane Austen would appreciate,” Alpert says of Buffy’s linen sheets. “If she depicted Elizabeth Bennet waking up in bed with a cup of tea, this is the perfect setup.” While she says they might be a bit heavy in weight for a hot sleeper, these drape beautifully, don’t fit too tight on a bed, and have enough heft for the cooler months of the year.

Alpert has the sheets in the desert sand color and says it pairs well with a moss hue. “I used the Piglet in Bed Botanic Green gingham duvet cover with it, and it looked like my bed was plucked out of an English cottage,” she says. “This color is also a bit of a chameleon because it can lean into cottagecore when paired with gingham or floral prints, but then if I add more natural hues like browns and beiges, the bedscaping is more elevated.”

The Splurge Set

Coyuchi Organic Relaxed Linen Sheets

Coyuchi Organic Relaxed Linen Sheets

Durable fabric, earth-friendly manufacturing, GOTS-certified

Takes a couple of washes to relax the material

  • Material: 100% linen
  • Available sizes: Full, queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Cold wash on the gentle or delicate with like colors. Tumble dry low and remove promptly
  • Available colors: Redwood, harbor blue, laurel, Alpine white, natural chambray, fog, slate
  • What’s included: Fitted sheet, flat sheet, and one to two pillowcases, depending on the sheet size

Coyuchi’s chambray styles may result in a price shock: A queen-size set starts at $598. That said, their commitment to earth-friendly manufacturing is evidenced in their organic, GOTS, and Made Safe certifications and is worth the higher price. And not only are they well made, high-quality linens, they’re easy on the eyes and regularly featured in the likes of serene, island-inspired escapes, like this Martha’s Vineyard compound. “I love the color, which is what drew me to these sheets in the first place,” adds Sam Cochran, global features editor, adding that he has them in “the perfect brown—a tad auburn, ever so slightly timeworn in palette.”

Piglet Heritage 100% Linen Bundle

Evokes a countryside-inspired aesthetic, durable material, customizable bundle

  • Material: 100% European flax linen
  • Available sizes: Twin, full, queen, king/California king
  • Washing instructions: Machine was at 104 Fahrenheit with similar colors. Avoid using fabric softener. Air dry or tumble dry on low.
  • Available colors: 18 solid colors and eight patterned options
  • What’s included: You can build a bundle to include a pair of pillowcases, a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, and a duvet cover

UK-based Piglet In Bed’s linen sets are a cottagecore match made in heaven. We’re especially lusting over this gingham set for the winter season, but there are dozens of solid colors and patterns to peruse. Like many bedding options these days, you can fully customize your set, from flat sheet options to pillowcase closures, all made of French flax linen. The price is up there, but Sessums recently made the case for considering these sheets like you would an investment piece: “Though this sheet set is a bit steep in price, the quality is unmatched and I predict I’ll use these for as long as they’ll last (seemingly incredibly long!). You really get what you pay for, so I would say these are A+++ sheets.”

Boll & Branch Linen Sheet Set

Unique top sheet stitching, wide range of sizes, highly absorbent

  • Material: 100% European Flax
  • Available sizes: Twin, full, queen, king, king with standard pillowcases, California king, split king
  • Washing instructions: Wash in cold water with like colors on a gentle cycle.
  • Available colors: White, mist, sageleaf, shore, mineral, terracotta
  • What’s included: Fitted sheet, flat sheet, two pillowcases

With Oeko-Tex certified items across its collections, Boll & Branch is our favorite place to buy organic, ultra-soft bedding—including the brand’s linen bed sheets. The brand notes that these 100% European Flax sheets go through a four-step garment wash, and Alpert says they might be the softest she’s ever slept on thanks to the pillowy texture. “When I was testing these, I happened to get night sweats, and was pleasantly surprised that the sheets just sort of absorbed the moisture but didn’t actually feel soggy or wet,” she says, adding that this never happens with her organic cotton sheets. “They also felt extremely breathable and light, kind of like sleeping inside a cloud.”

This set offers subtle details to style a bed, too. “I like that the top stitching on the flat sheet has a wider hem, which makes for better bedscaping,” Alpert adds. “I am also a little obsessed with the hue of the mineral colorway. The website makes it look like it’s a slate gray, but in real life it is this delicious deep blue, almost like a stormy sky, but it is so beautiful.”

Linoto takes linen very seriously. The company offers items across the decor spectrum, but the sheets are the real stars—they’re handmade in upstate New York with top-notch Italian and Belgian linen. Prewashed with nontoxic detergent, they arrive ready to be loved. Contributor Erika Owen was a fan of how cool they kept her and their good looks. “I also love the lived-in look they constantly have, thanks to the easy wrinkling,” she adds. Need deep pockets or European sizes? They got you covered there. If you’re looking for the best organic linen sheets, Linoto has an option for that too.

Parachute Heirloom TENCEL Linen Sheet Set

Sustainable linen blend, multiple bundle options, the organic colorways are ideal for a bohemian-inspired bedroom

  • Material: 58% Tencel lyocell, 42% European flax linen blend
  • Available sizes: Full, queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Machine washable
  • Available colors: White, bone, sage, clover
  • What’s included: Two pillowcases, a flat sheet, and a fitted sheet

A variation of the classic Parachute linen sheets our editors know and love, this linen blend (that is, linen mixed with another fabric), is also hard to beat. The muted tones available are perfect for those seeking a minimalist bedroom aesthetic that’s not boring. Baker enjoys the sheets she owns in the mauve-adjacent hue, but she’d recommend each soothing color offering available. What’s more, these sheets stand apart from the crowd with the added botanical fiber, Tencel, that gives them a supremely soft and smooth feel. “I feel warm and cozy every time I curl up in these bed sheets,” Baker says. “I worried at first that I’d overheat with these sheets, but they have an airiness to them that keeps me comfortable throughout the night.” What we love about Parachute, aside from the tried-and-true quality, is that you can pick from a full bedding bundle that includes a duvet cover with sheets and pillow shams starting at $660, or just a super luxe fitted sheet for $150 (plus every combo in between).

Ettitude Linen+ Bamboo Sheet Set

Embroidered detailing, drapey design, lightweight

  • Material: 70% CleanBamboo® Lyocell, 30% hemp
  • Available sizes: Queen, king, California king
  • Washing instructions: Wash on cold with mild detergent and like fabrics in a gentle or delicate setting. Line dry or tumble dry low. Avoid bleach or fabric softener.
  • Available colors: White, honey, ink
  • What’s included: Fitted sheet, flat sheet, two pillowcases

Although Ettitude is a go-to of ours for sateen sheets, the linen sheet set is the kind of bedding you want to come home to, according to Alpert. “These are almost feathery in the way the flat sheet drapes over me,” she says. “While I appreciate crisp percale bedding, there is something about crawling into sheets that feel worn in. When these are on my bed, I am at ease and fall asleep promptly.”

These best sellers just so happen to be Alpert’s absolute favorites when it comes to decorative details, too. “The piping trim is a nice touch that isn’t superfluous or overly fancy and makes the sheet set anything but pedestrian,” she adds. “I also have a small crush on the embroidered design at the bottom—it’s like a little stamp of distinction and looks as if a few gems were scattered on the pillowcase covers.”

How We Tested the Best Linen Sheets

There is one common question we get surrounding testing: Do we actually sleep on all the sheets we feature in our roundups? The answer is a unanimous yes. Instead of lab testing or giving sheets a quick once over in a store, our editors brought these linen sheets in their homes to launder them and sleep on them—just like our readers would—and kept an eye out for qualities like a relaxed look and feel. These real world-tested sets are selected based on a variety of price points and designs to fit any shopper’s needs. Linen fibers, which are derived from the flax plant, are naturally hypoallergenic, absorbent, and antibacterial, so we also looked for sheets without synthetic fibers to suit sleepers with sensitive skin.
