(Need help in reaching a decision) Relevance of learning GIS in Architecture and Urban Design

Hey everyone I am in need of some quick advice to reach a consensus on a decision.
My school is offering to give select students a GIS apprenticeship for a whole semester given that we complete a set of surveying objectives assigned to us in an Urban Design Elective. It will also be benificial for me in the case I try to apply for something Urban or Heritage based
Thing is I really don't know how relevant GIS is to an Architecture Student still taking urban design basics and the fact it will be about 6 whole months dragging through the whole semester which if you've attended architecture school know there is barely anytime to breathe.

My interests though lean more towards technical construction work and computational design and also a bit of Heritage related work but with the advent of AI and what not it is hard not to try and give myself a few more options and try to see GIS as something more than "glorified surveying".So is it really THAT benificial for your run of the mill architect or aspiring urban designer?
