These $45 Harry Potter Keycaps Will Finally Settle Which Hogwarts House You Really Belong In

It’s September 1st, which means it’s officially Back To Hogwarts Day, and while most of us muggles can only dream of being sorted into our favorite houses, the folks at Dwarf Factory do have something that’s arguably a close second! Created for Drop and Harry Potter, these four artisanal keycaps sort you into either of the four Hogwarts houses. Each keycap is detailed with one of the four house crests, and for $45 apiece, you can adorn your mechanical keyboard with an artisanal cap of your choice, representing your house… and ultimately your destiny!

As we’ve come to expect from Dwarf Factory, each keycap is meticulous in its hand-painted detail. The four caps embody the four houses beautifully, with the colored themes as well as the use of metallic paints on the mascots themselves. Labels on the bottom read out the house name, although at that low angle, you also get to admire the 3D relief of each crest.

Designer: Dwarf Factory for Drop + Harry Potter™

Drop + Harry Potter™: Gryffindor™ Keycap

Each house gets its own keycap. Gryffindor gets first dibs because it’s clearly the most popular of the four houses (and a winner of the House Cup in Harry’s first year). The keycap features the iconic lion, with the yellow and red backdrop that are the house’s official colors. Look around the keycap and you’ll find surprising details everywhere, making this one all-round beauty.

The Gryffindor keycap are for those who consider themselves valiant in the face of adversity. Lions are chosen to represent Gryffindor because they symbolize bravery, daring, and nobility, aligning with the house’s core values.

Drop + Harry Potter™: Hufflepuff™ Keycap

The Hufflepuff key is adorned by its beloved mascot, the badger, known for its strength and loyalty, representing the key values of hard work, patience. The keycap features the house’s yellow and black colorway, with gold and silver accents encased in the clear resin keycap.

I don’t usually let it spill (because I never got cast in Gryffindor), but back in the day when Pottermore was a thing, I was cast in Hufflepuff. Now sure, I don’t care much for the house beyond the fact that it had Cedric Diggory, but I do accept my fate. Or I did for a span of 2 hours before using another email ID to finally get Gryffindor as my house!

Drop + Harry Potter™: Ravenclaw™ Keycap

Hilariously enough, Ravenclaw’s mascot isn’t a raven – it’s an eagle. The eagle is a prestigious symbol of strength, immortality, and high intelligence in various mythologies. The movies changed the mascot to a raven (just to make it easier for audiences, I suppose), but officially, the Ravenclaw mascot has always been an eagle. This keycap has what I can only surmise is an eagle too, encased in the house’s blue color palette.

Drop + Harry Potter™: Slytherin™ Keycap

We finally end with the Slytherin keycap, featuring the house’s mascot, a serpent. While most mascots were chosen to depict the personalities of people within the house, the Slytherin mascot was a direct connection to house founder Salazar Slytherin, because of his love for snakes and his ability to speak to them. This ability was central to his identity and ended up also representing his house’s themes of cunning and ambition, traits often associated with serpents in folklore and mythology.

All four keycaps are modeled with the Cherry R1 profile and are 1U sized, which means they fit most standard single-cell keys on your mechanical keyboard. The keys are compatible with all Cherry MX switches and clones, and are estimated to ship starting December with preorders open on Drop’s website right now.
